Search for Matching Occupations

The Search module enables you to search for occupations based on selected occupational characteristics and requirements, such as abilities, education and training, knowledges, skills, and work activities. You do this by selecting various occupational variables that would be important to you in a job, then having the system search for the occupations that match your selected criteria. You are also able to choose specific Search Options that restrict the occupations selected.

Select Search Options

Select Search Options to set the desired search restrictions. The Search Option offers three settings to help you to find occupations that meet your specific criteria. You may search for occupations that match:

a. Exactly the set values;
b. Any values up to and including the set values (at or below set values);
c. Any values down to and including the set values (at or above set values).

Select Area

On the Search criteria tree, select an "area" (e.g., Abilities) to choose specific aspects of a job that are important to you. To see a brief description of the area, pass the mouse cursor over any of the tree clusters. The description is displayed to the left of the pelican image.

It is not necessary or advisable to select and rate all of the criteria on the Search criteria tree. You may find that if you select too many criteria, that your search will be too restrictive and no occupations will be identified. You may want to start with three or four criteria that are most important to you. As you select the criteria, monitor the matching occupations counter at the bottom of the screen. If your selections eliminate all the occupations, go back and adjust your ratings to a different number, or choose fewer criteria.
