I Enjoy...

Sometimes you can get a good idea of the types of jobs you might like by exploring things you enjoy doing for yourself or for others. OSCAR lets you browse through statements describing activities you might enjoy doing.

The statements are broken into seven groups. Choose a group of related statements by clicking on any of the tabs above the statements. Choose one or more statements from one or more groups by clicking on the statement. You will see a mark appear to indicate that you have chosen that statement. If you decide you don't want to choose a statement, click on it again. You may notice that some statements appear in more than one group. This is because the activity described by that statement fits with the activities described by the statements in more than one group.

After you have chosen one or more statements that describe activities you think you might enjoy doing, click Continue to see occupations which are suggested by the statements you have selected. You should keep in mind that many of the statements, such as "Taking ballet or other dancing lessons", do not describe activities which are found in any occupation. The activity statements suggest interests in various areas that can be connected to occupations or groups of occupations. If you chose the ballet statement used as an example above you would be directed to occupations such as 'Choreographers', 'Dancers', and 'Models'. You would also be directed to 'Instructors, Nonvocational Education' which is suggested by the interest in "lessons".

Sometimes you may find that there are no occupations which match all of your criteria. This is a natural result of entering search choices which suggest different career paths.

Remember that you are not choosing tasks that are directly connected to occupations, you are choosing activities that might suggest an interest in certain occupations. Sometimes this leads to unexpected results, showing you occupations that you might never have considered exploring.

Note: OSCAR’s activity statements are taken from the Leisure Activities Checklist and the Home Activities Checklist, both of which are a part of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Guide for Occupational Exploration (GOE). The statements are connected to occupations through the GOE’s work groups and work subgroups using the O*NET’s GOE-to-occupations crosswalk.
