OSCAR
Welcome to the Internet version of OSCAR, the second version of the Occupation and Skill Computer-Assisted Researcher. In the Opening Screen of OSCAR you have two choices to begin your occupation and skill search. I Want to Take the Quick Trip - If you are a first-time user of OSCAR or don't have much time to spend with OSCAR right now (30 minutes or less), we suggest that you take OSCAR's Quick Trip. With the Quick Trip you have two options that will quickly provide you with a list of occupations that matches your work values and/or is similar to your current or most recent job. If you select the Search by Work Values button, you will be able to perform an on-line self-assessment of your Work Values, then see a list of occupations that match those work values. If you select the Look for Similar, you will be able to look for occupations that have characteristics similar to your current (or most recent) occupation. By combining the results of both options, you can refine your list to a few occupations that might be of interest to you. I Want to Take the Full Flight - If you have used OSCAR before or have more than 30 minutes to spend with OSCAR, you may want to take OSCAR's Full Flight. With the Full Flight, you will have access to OSCAR's Main Menu and be able to explore many more aspects of an occupation, such as level of education required; knowledge, skills, and abilities needed; and wage information. You will still be able to take the on-line Assessment and Best Match, and receive all the information provided in the Quick Trip. OSCAR offers a number of ways to explore your career options. It is not necessary to visit every section. In fact, you should not try to go through OSCAR in one or two sittings. Someone looking to change jobs, for instance, might go directly to the BEST MATCH or COMPARE modules for answers. |
